Unity Tour 2011 Brings 311 & Sublime with Rome to Columbus (Examiner)

In 1989, an EP entitled Downstairs was recorded in vocalist/rhythm guitarist Nick Hexum's basement. However, the album suffered from a scratchy guitar that produced an unintended grinding "ringing" sound so high-pitched that it distorted the sound of the tape upon recording. Twenty-two years later, the same band that produced this gnarled EP has released nine studio albums, one live album, four compilation albums, four EPs and four DVDs under the name 311.

The band has been extremely successful since the release of their self-titled album in 1995. The album itself went triple platinum and reached the #12 spot on the Billboard 200. Their single "Down" topped the Billboard Hot Modern Rock Tracks in 1996. The American rock band's next three albums were successful as well, with 1997's Transistor going platinum while 1999's Soundsystem and 2001's From Chaos went gold. As of 2011, 311 has sold over 8 million records worldwide.

For the summer of 2011, 311 has joined forces with Sublime with Rome, a musical collaboration by Eric Wilson, Bud Gaugh, and Rome Ramirez, for the Unity Tour. Sublime with Rome was formed only two years ago in 2009. Wilson and Gaugh were both successful musicians with the band Sublime until the death of frontman Bradley Nowell in 1996. The two have had several musical projects since then, including Long Beach Dub Allstars, Long Beach Shortbus, Eyes Adrift and Volcano.
