Many moon since first I saw you: 311 and Sublime @ Northerly Island tonight (Chicago Now)

It is hard to believe that 311 has been around for twenty-one years. Touring consistently, staying relevant and keeping up their West Coast surf punk beats even when the mainstream music scene has gone from rock to grunge to pop to jam to pop to whatever the cool kids listen to now.

But I remember them. I remember specifically that 311's drummer, Chad Sexton is the main reason why many kids I knew decided to give drumming a try. If you can remember that, you will see why this show might be a good one to check out this evening at the Lakefront. Especially with Sublime-ish also playing.

Tonight, there are a whole slew of people who are getting out their baggy pants and skull caps (at least in theory -- although I am sure plenty of wife beaters will be broken out) because 311 (with Sublime featuring Rome) will be playing Charter One Pavillion at Northerly Island for their Unity Tour 2011. July 19th, the band will be releasing their newest album, Universal Pulse, their first since 2009's Uplifter.

Universal Pulse is the band’s tenth studio album and the first to be released via their own imprint 311 Records through an exclusive partnership with ATO Records. It's produced by Bob Rock (Aerosmith, Metallica) and was mixed by Chad Sexton at the band’s Hive Studios in North Hollywood.

The tour also features DJ Soulman & DJ Trichrome and goes through August 26th, hitting stops around the country and ending in Seattle, Washington.
