Reggae Rock quintet 311 strikes out on its own label for newest studio album (Music Factory)

Members of the reggae rock quintet 311 have become their own bosses, and they have their own record label now to prove it – 311 Records.

After two decades with major labels, the group is bringing out its 10th studio album, Universal Pulse, on July 19 as the debut on the new label, according to Billboard.com. In a partnership with ATO Records, the fledgling company has released the lead single, Sunset in July, which climbed to number 13 on the Alternative chart.

Next month, the quintet will headline at the Pow Wow Festival, a three-day event in Live Oak, Florida. They'll be joined by Deftones, Sublime With Rome, Reel Big Fish and SOJA.

311's latest effort has a harder edge than the group's previous albums. "Ballads are out and the tight collection of eight, guitar-filled songs, heavy on distortion, finds the band sounding upbeat and energized," the website reports.

While the group has a strong social media and ad campaign planned for the new album, their connection to ATO Records also promises to gain attention for the collection. "So many of our bands are touring bands, we understand how to market our records over touring," ATO executive Jon Salter told Billboard.
