Musicians, readers share MTV memories (Omaha World Herald)





















MTV was a huge help to 311. I remember when "120 Minutes" debuted our "Do You Right" video. It was the last video they played that night. We were at Sharky's Brewery in Omaha after having just played a big hometown show. We were jubilant. Lots of high-fiving.

People ask us when did we feel like we really made it. I'd have to say it was in '95 when we had a MTV Buzz Clip for "Down" and then played on Letterman. We were like, "OK, now we've arrived."

Of course the cool kids had MTV first and we all hung out at their houses. And when we got it at home, we never wanted to leave. MTV's Headbanger's Ball changed my life. It showed me how cool it looked to be a touring musician. I had to at least give it a shot. 21 years later...
