Listen up: hear 311's new single "Sunset in July" (Examiner.com)

311 lead vocalist/rhythm guitarist Nick Hexum called in to the Kevin & Bean show this morning on The World Famous KROQ to premiere the band's new single, Sunset in July.

The song is off of the band's upcoming tenth studio album, Universal Pulse, which will be released on July 19th. The Omaha-bred but Los Angeles-based band has been working with producer Bob Rock for the last few months, readying the follow-up to 2009's Uplifter.

Hear the song via the YouTube link on the left-hand side of this page.

SPIN posted a high-quality stream of the song, which you can check out here.

Sunset in July is vintage 311 - catchy, crunchy guitar work from lead guitarist Tim Mahoney, funky bass lines from Aaron "P-Nut" Wills, high-energy singing and rapping from vocalists S.A. Martinez and Nick Hexum, and solid drum smashing from Chad Sexton. The song is an ode to touring and the strong connection the band feels with their fans on their annual Unity Tour in the summer.

Coincidentally, 311 will be hitting the road on this year's Unity Tour this summer with Sublime with Rome, playing amphitheaters around the country. The Los Angeles-area dates on the tour include Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Irvine on Saturday, August 20th and the Santa Barbara Bowl on the following day, August 21st. Tickets for both shows are already on sale - here for Irvine and here for Santa Barbara.
