In Concert: 311 gets own festival in Flordia (Palm Beach Post)

A new twist on the music festival is beginning to take root – the festival geared toward fans of one band.

Wanee, up in Live Oak, is among the most successful of these, becoming a magnet for fans of The Allman Brothers Band. Dave Matthews Band took a similar approach this summer with their series of “Caravan” shows – four festival-sized shows highlighted each night by a full set by DMB.

The more raucous group 311 is now getting into the act with the initial 311 Pow Wow Festival, coming Aug. 4-6 at the Spirit of the Suwanee Music Park in Live Oak.

As the headlining act, 311 will play two sets each on both Friday and Saturday that weekend. They’ll be joined by Sublime with Rome, Deftones, G. Love, Soja, The Dirty Heads, Reel Big Fish, Ozomatli, Streetlight Manifesto, The Supervillains, Ballyhoo, DJ Soulman and DJ Trichrome.

Among the group’s four sets, 311 announced that it would play its 1997 album Transistor (known for the single “Beautiful Disaster”) in its entirety during the festival for the first time.

Tickets for the 311 Pow Wow go on sale on Friday at Ticketmaster outlets, and you can find out more about the event by visiting 311powwowfestival.com.
