311/Sublime with Rome (Riverfront Times)

In the very early '90s, long before Bright Eyes, Cursive and the Faint made a name for the Omaha music scene, a handful of white kids with a love for rap, funk and hydroponic weed formed 311 and emerged from Nebraska like the cloud of smoke billowing out of Spicoli's VW bus. Led by fresh-faced, posi-groove purveyor and primary songwriter, Nick Hexum, 311 conquered the mainstream music scene and won over rich suburban kids and urban b-boys alike. Twenty-plus years after its inception, 311 is still filling out theaters and sheds across the country with its reggae-infused rap rock party. And as if its fans weren't stoned enough, 311 has tapped Sublime With Rome — the newly re-formed Sublime with 23-year-old guitarist and singer Rome Ramirez — to round out this year's Unity Tour.
