311’s Hexum Meditates On “Summer” (Westwood One, Rip Read & Rock)
311’s Nick Hexum has his own method of writing, and it comes from repetitive listening of the band’s music. He explains, “Meditative listening is what I call it. If you just keep listening over and over again, something will come up. It just drops out of the sky. I can’t really explain where it comes from, but it’s like your subconscious mind will make stuff up all the time.” The vocalist says their current hit “Sunset In July” started this way, as he had the music on repeat as he was speeding a vehicle through Angeles National Forest in Los Angeles, pulling over to write something every time an idea struck. “Sunset In July” is featured on the upcoming “Universal Pulse” album, due July 19th.
